That old rule admonishing the wearing of white until after Memorial Day is a teensy bit outdated, but I hear my deceased Grandmother say it every year.

Daisy Buchanan epitomizes spring in white and she lives on in it thanks to the film. Theoni V. Aldredge won an Oscar for her costuming for the 1974 Great Gatsby film.

The scale, precision and sheer number of white military tombstones humbles me when we visit graves in Colma.

‘The Magpie’ by Monet is currently at the ‘Birth of Impressionism’ exhibit at the de Young. The loveliness of the whites struck me when I saw it yesterday.

Wherever you find yourself this Memorial Day, I hope you wear white without hesitation. Have a lovely weekend. Photo courtesy AP.
